When we first visited this bungalow in Corsham it was structurally sound but very tired: pebble-dash render, a flat-roof garage on its last legs and a cracked concrete drive. The owners wanted a home that looked new without the cost of knocking it down.
The plan
We extended the front to give the entrance some presence, rebuilt the garage with a pitched roof to match the house, and replaced all the windows and doors with slim anthracite frames. The exterior was re-rendered in a warm off-white and finished with panels of western red cedar cladding.
Outside
The old drive was dug out and replaced with a golden gravel driveway on a stabilising grid, edged with new Bath stone walls. A fresh lawn and simple planting complete the front garden.
The result
From the street the house is unrecognisable. Sixteen weeks after we started, the owners have a modern home that suits how they live, at a fraction of the cost of a rebuild.
